Acronis Clean Up Utility cleans up all traces of Acronis True Image Home and Acronis Disk Director Suite from operating system

Description

Acronis Clean Up Utility is a console application that removes all traces of Acronis True Image Home and Acronis Disk Director Suite from operating system.

It is recommended to use Acronis Clean Up Utility only if you cannot remove an Acronis product through Add/Remove programs.

The utility is written using plain commands of command line interpreter (cmd.exe) included in Windows 2000 and higher.

Download Acronis Clean Up Utility.

System requirements

Supported products:

(!) Previous versions of these products may also be supported but this has not been tested.

Supported operating systems:

  • Windows XP 32/64 bit
  • Windows Vista 32/64 bit (any edition)

Supported languages:

  • English
  • Russian
  • German
  • French
  • Italian

The utility automatically detects the language according to Regional and Language Options.

Usage

Two additional components are required to use the utility:

  • DevCon - command-line utility that is an alternative to the Windows Device Manager. DevCon is included in Windows Vista by default. Read more in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272.
  • Msizap.exe - command-line utility performs cleanup operations on the Windows Installer configuration management information. Msizap.exe is a part of Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

If there is no DevCon in the system, you can download it from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 311272, and place it in Windows\system32. Or you can just run Acronis Clean Up Utility, and will offer to remove Acronis True Image Backup Archive Explorer manually:

(!) See Removing Acronis Backup Archive Explorer for instructions on how to remove it manually.

If there is no Msizap.exe, then Acronis Clean Up Utility will offer to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft web-site:

On the selection screen you will be prompted to enter "y" to remove all Acronis products, "t" to remove Acronis True Image Home only or "n" to exit:

You will be asked to terminate the Windows Explorer process during cleanup process, since this is necessary to remove the tishell.dll and timounter.dll Acronis files, which interact with explorer.exe:

In the end you will be asked to reboot the machine to complete the removal process.

The utility files

The acronis_cleanup.exe file is only a shell that creates Acronis_CleanUp folder in TEMP directory and extracts three files there:

  • Setup.cmd - a script file that is responsible for GUI and corrects localization settings, e.g. all language specific symbols will be shown correctly in the console window.
  • Cleanup.cmd - the main script file that does the entire cleanup.
  • Schedmgr.exe - Acronis Scheduler Manager.

Important notes

  • You need to log in using account with administrative privileges to be able to run Acronis Clean Up Utility.
  • The tool will not work if UAC (User Account Control) is enabled:

  • If Acronis product is installed to a non-default folder (i.e. not to the Program Files folder) some of Acronis files might not be deleted.
  • This tool does not remove Acronis Startup Recovery Manager and Acronis OS Selector if they are activated.
  • This tool does not remove Acronis Secure Zone. Please remove it manually, if there is one.
