Converting a basic to a dynamic disk, or a dynamic disk to basic

Acronis Disk Director 11 (all editions)

Introduction

Conversion of both basic to dynamic and dynamic to basic is performed without data loss.

Conversion of a dynamic system disk to basic will require a reboot.

Solution

Converting basic to dynamic:

Start Acronis Disk Director 11;
Right-click on the disk and select Convert to dynamic:
Click OK:
Commit the operation:

Basic to dynamic conversion does not require a reboot.

Converting dynamic to basic:

(!) This operation is available only for a dynamic disk that is empty or contains only one or more simple volumes, with each simple volume occupying a single region on the disk. These volumes will become basic volumes.

For example, you will not be able to convert Disk 2 or Disk 3 in the following situation:

Volume E: spans over two disks.

Start Acronis Disk Director 11;
Right-click on the disk and select Convert to basic:
Click OK:
Commit the operation:

Dynamic to basic conversion of a system disk requires a reboot:
