Restore the files/folders again with the File level security settings option ticked off

This article applies to:

  • Acronis True Image Home 2011
  • Acronis True Image Home 2010
  • Acronis True Image 11 Home
  • Acronis True Image Home 10.0
  • Acronis True Image Home 9.0
  • Acronis True Image 9.1
  • Acronis True Image Echo
  • Acronis Backup & Recovery 10

Symptoms

  1. You restore files or folders from an Acronis backup archive to a different Windows operating system;
  2. When you try to access the restored files/folders you get the Access denied error message.

Cause

Even if you used the same user account to create the image and to log in the operating system, where you restored the files/folders, these accounts still have different SIDs (Security Identifiers). Therefore you may not have rights to access certain folders or files.

Solution

  1. Restore the files/folders again, but this time on the Choose Restore Options screen of the Recovery wizard select Set the options manually;
  2. Select File level security settings and uncheck the Restore files preserving their security settings option.
