Description

Working with Acronis Disk Editor requires a thorough understanding of the hard disk structure, file systems, operating systems, partitioning schemes and principles of data storage organization.

(!) When misused, you can easily violate a disk’s information integrity by making data inaccessible. Also, your machine operability may be severely affected (the operating system will stop loading, applications will stop running).

Starting Acronis Disk Editor:

Start Acronis Disk Director 11 and select a volume or a disk;
Click Edit volume or Edit Disk:

Viewing disk and volume information:

With Acronis Disk Director started, click View:
- As Hex
- As Partition Table
- As FAT16 Boot Sector
- As FAT32 Boot Sector
- As FAT32 FS Info Sector
- As NTFS Boot Sector
- As FAT Folder
The hexadecimal (HEX) view mode is the main and the most universal. Other modes that represent patterns for viewing data and let you work with decoded values of bytes or groups of bytes.

Usage examples

Saving MBR:

Right-click on the MBR disk and select Edit Disk:
Make sure the Hex mode is selected:
Place the cursor at the very beginning of the first sector byte (Absolute sector 0, or 0000 in Hex, Position o):
Then, hold down the Shift key and use the arrow keys to select the first 445 bytes of the sector (Position: 444). This will select the MBR code and disk signature:
Select Edit -> Write to file:
Save the file.

Copying MBR to a disk:

Make sure you have a saved MBR as described above;
Right-click on the disk to which you would like to copy MBR and select Edit Disk:
Place the cursor at the very beginning of the first sector byte (Absolute sector 0, or 0000 in Hex, Position 0):
Select Edit -> Read from file:
Select the copied MBR and click OK:
