Splitting large files into smaller chunks

Introduction

For troubleshooting purposes, an Acronis Customer Central Representative might ask you to send a large file. Files that are bigger than 5 MB will not be accepted by the Acronis E-mail system.

Such files need to be split up.

For files larger than 10 MB, please request an FTP link. See Uploading Files to Acronis FTP Server.

Solution

Depending on the size of the file, you may want to split the file. For example, a 20 MB file.

Also, you might want to split huge files (e.g. files larger than 2 GB) into 640 MB slices, as uploading such large files may fail over FTP.

To split a file, do the following:

  1. Download the free 7-Zip tool and install it;
  2. Right-click on the file that you would like to split. Select 7-Zip -> Add to archive:

  3. Under Split to volumes, bytes, type in or copy and paste the following value:

    3500000

  4. Click OK.

    The file will be split into 3.5 MB chunks.

More information

The created archive can be extracted with 7-Zip.
